Is there a US-based free blog site where the blogger can post affiliate links and ads and earn income?

The existence of ads on a blog site does NOT mean the blogger is receiving income–the site probably is–so I need a knowledgeable response with support for the claim the site is free AND allows the blogger to earn the income. Google's adsense is money for THEM not bloggers from what I can see.

If no such blog site exists, is there a web hosting site that would be free with income stream allowed to that user?

    yes, http://www.bustablog.com allows you to create a wordpress style blog where you can use almost anything you want.
